Winter weather conditions
14 February 2025We continue to monitor the situation of severe weather in Ontario and Western Canada. CPKC has responded with proper preparedness and made sure safety plays a major role during the challenging winter conditions. One of the responses to the safety action plan is to shorten the train length and clear ice and snow at rail stations across the affected areas. There will be delays but we are monitoring and will provide updates as they become available.
If you do have questions, please reach out to your account manager or customer service.
MESSAGE FROM CPKC

Customer Advisory – Winter weather conditions / Avis aux clients – Conditions météorologiques hivernales
CPKC expects significant snowfall activity and cold temperatures to impact Ontario and the prairie provinces in Canada as well as the U.S Midwest and areas extending to Kansas City beginning Wednesday, February 12. Customers may experience delays of up to 24 hours during this weather event.
Our teams are closely monitoring conditions in these service areas for potential impact to the CPKC network and surrounding communities and as a precautionary action, response teams are in place to respond quickly to potential outages.
During the winter period, proper preparedness is important and our customers play a major safety role during challenging winter conditions. Arranging for sanding or clearing away snow or ice before our crews’ arrival is one of the ways that poor winter weather effects can be mitigated. Gates leading into your facility must open fully and be properly secured in all weather conditions (including when the ground is frozen) to prevent gates from swinging closed during switching operations. Please contact your local CPKC Operations office ahead of your scheduled service with as much advance notice as possible if your facility is not serviceable because of snow and / or ice, and then advise when it will be clear.
The safety of our employees, customer shipments and the communities we serve and operate in are our priority. We will continue to proactively monitor conditions and will notify our customers of any new developments or impacts to our network or services.
